This Children’s Nuclear & Pandemic Protection Kit is designed to provide the absolute essentials for protecting the most vulnerable members of your family in the event of unexpected catastrophes or exposure.
At the core of this kit is our new MD-1 Children’s Gas Mask. The most advanced, best value children’s respirator on the market today, the MD-1 is an ultra-lightweight mask with a wide panoramic visor and 5-point head harness.
Unlike expensive, single-use alternatives, the MD-1 uses the same 40 mm filters as your mask, allowing you to rely on a single supply of canisters (like our cutting-edge MIRA canister filters that feature an extended 20-year shelf life) to maximize the odds of survival in the event of a disaster. It’s also compatible with accessories like our Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR).
In this kit, we’ve included a MIRA Safety Gas Mask Pouch that can be used to store the kit when not in use and to hold the filter and hose when the mask is deployed. The pouch is engineered to withstand abuse without tearing. It also comes with a flexible mounting system and padding for comfort through long hours on the move.
The included potassium iodide tablets making them an affordable, must-have solution for every family.
Nuclear accidents and incidents can release radiation. As you may know, radioactive iodine accumulates in the thyroid and causes serious illness or death. Taking iodine tablets blocks the absorption of radioactive iodine. That’s why these tablets are the first thing people will want and need in the event of a nuclear catastrophe, so it’s important to have them on hand ahead of time.

NBC-77 SOF GAS MASK FILTER APPLICATION:
The filter canister in connection with a suitable respirator or PAPR provides protection against solid and liquid particles, pepper spray (OC), smoke-producing substances, radioactive particles, bacteria and rickettsia, fungi, toxins, viruses, riot control agents (lachrymators, sternutators, vomiting agents), blister agents (vesicants), choking agents, blood agents, nerve agents, incapacitants, herbicides, pesticides, and TIC, such as bromoacetone, CS, CR, CN, CNC, CNS, CA substances, organic compounds of arsenic - diphenyldichlorarsine - CLARK I (DA), diphenylcyanoarsine - CLARK II (DC), adamsite (DM), diphenyldichlorarsine (DA), ethyldichlorarsine (ED), methyldichlorarsine (MD), mustard gas (H), sulphur mustard gas (HD), T-mustard gas, Q-mustard gas, nitrogen mustard gases (HN1, HN2, HN3), lewisite (L), mixed mustard gas (H-L), phosgene oxime (CX), phosgene (CG), diphosgene(DP), chloropicrin (PS), hydrogen cyanide (AC), cyanogen chloride (CK), arsine (SA), G-agents: sarin (GB), cyclosarin (GF), soman (GD), tabun (GA), IVA (GV), V-agents: VX, VR, VE, VG (amiton), VM and toxic industrial chemicals such as: fumes of organic or inorganic acids, hydroxides, organic solvents with a boiling point above 65° C, ammonia, amines, inorganic and acid gases, agricultural chemical combustion gases, other toxic substances, e.g. benzene, toluene, vinyl chloride, fluorine, hydrogen fluoride, sulphur oxides, chloroacetic acid, aldehydes, mixtures of inorganic acids, and organic substances, mercury vapors, radioactive iodine, organic compounds of iodine (Iodomethane, 129, 131), radioactive particles, etc.

GAS MASK FILTER LIFETIME:
Breakthrough time of a gas mask filter is tested according to EN 14387+A1 at humidity 70% and flow rate 30 l/min, which is equivalent to the volume of air per minute used by an average person carrying out medium heavy work. The approximate lifetime (usage time) of a filter may, under normal conditions, calculated by comparing the concentration at the workplace and the minimum Dynamic Adsorption Capacity (DAC) for the filter.
GAS MASK FILTER STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE:
Each NBC-77 SOF gas mask filter is sealed in a plastic bag by the manufacturer. Store the filters unopened in a clean place at even temperature, most appropriate at -5 to +30°C and relative humidity below 80%. Sealed filters tolerate also conditions of -30 to +50°C and RH below 95%. The storage period (month and year) for filters is marked on the filter label. Do not try to regenerate the filters. Never clean the filters with compressed air or compressed water.
The MD-1 Children’s Gas Masks must be stored in a dark, cool, dust-free environment that is well ventilated and free from sudden temperature changes. Temperatures may vary between 5°C and 25°C with relative humidity up to 60%. The stored products should not be exposed to radiant heat or sunshine. Fuels, solvents, lubricants, and other inflammable substances must not be stored with the masks.
Do not store with or near any electrical machines or appliances that produce electric sparks or discharges during operation (ozone creation).
Avoid deformation of the rubber parts of the facepiece and internal mask when storing the masks. Inspect gas masks regularly to ensure they seal effectively as needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to breathing resistance on all negative pressure gas masks, a “balloon” test is recommended to ensure that a mask can be safely used during an emergency. A standard negative-pressure gas mask should only be used by children that can blow up a balloon with their own lung power.
Even if your child passes the balloon test, we highly recommend using a Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) with the MD-1 Children’s Gas Mask to reduce fatigue. PAPRs use a powered fan unit to improve airflow and create positive pressure for added protection from airborne contaminants. MIRA Safety’s PAPR unit is flexible and can be used with any of our 40 mm NATO standard gas masks.
