WHAT IS STATIC DISSIPATIVE FABRIC? Lakeland’s vests are made from patented GlenGuard® Hi-Vis/FR protective fabrics. These patented static dissipative fabrics, 10A (solid) and 10AM (mesh), are each designed with a carbon core fiber. The carbon core fiber works to dissipate a potentially harmful static charge allowing safe work in potentially combustible environments. Industries where there is always notable concern for static build-up include the natural gas transmission, exploration, drilling and transportation industries, gas utility, industrial confined spaces, petrochemical plants and many others. These types of hazardous environments are where a carbon fiber blended fabric is essential for worker safety.

Documentation and proof of static dissipative claims in these environments are achieved using the Gas Probe Test, Shirley Method 138-2000 and the Static Decay Test, Method 191A and 5931. Both tests are similar using “worst case conditions” scenarios and require a 50 specimen sample size. In the tests, fabric is charged to 4,000 volts during a 20 second period, and conclusive results specify a decay time to 10% maximum voltage at 0.5 seconds. All 50 specimens must pass the test before the fabric can cite these static dissipating claims. Both the 10A (Solid) and 10AM (Mesh) fabrics have passed this rigorous panel of testing
