RST THYCOL Demron Thyroid Collar $196.97 No Sales or Local Tax and Free Shipping. Made of Demron by Radiation Shield Technologies right here in the USA. Help Prevent Thyroid Cancer with a Demron Thyriod Collar! | Free Shipping and No Sales Tax

There are many thyroid collars for sale on the internet and some are very cheap.  There is only one, made of Demron material, that provides by far the highest level of protection.

The tyroid is a butter-fly shaped endocrine gland located at the base of the neck and is highly susceptible to damage by radiation from dental radiographs (x-rays) and radiation from other forms of imaging.

A very large number of dentists, when performing standard dental X-Rays put an apron on their patients, but the apron often does not sufficiently cover and protect the thyroid.  Our collar is worn seperately and can be easily put on by the patient (you) or by the hygienist or dentist.

We sell these to dental offices, but most cutomers are individuals who bring the collar to their dental appointments.  No dentist, or imaging technician should object to use of the collar and should welcome patients who are informed and want to protect themselves.  Only if the area in which the collar covers needs to be imaged, should the patient do without the use of the collar.

Not only good for dental x-rays but also any imaging involving ionizing radiation (CT Scan, Fluroscopy, mammograms, PET Scan, etc) in which the patient's thyroid is exposed to radiation.

Although dental radiation is much lower than in the past, the National Institute of Health states that "tyroid cancer is one of the most common cancers in the worldwide, and the side effects from dental radiation exposure are likely to contribute to its incidence due to the location of the thyroid gland"

The ROKA (Republic of Korea Army) commissioned testing of our Demron fabric in preparation for an upcoming tender. ROKA engaged a renowned Korean testing facility to perform attenuation testing against high-energy gamma Co-60 and high energy beta Sr-90 radiation.

In summary, one layer of Dermon fabric was able to reduce Co-60 emissions by 26.7% and high energy beta emissions Sr-90 by 91.6%.

Demron by RST: Superior Shielding Against High-Energy Gamma Radiation from Cobalt-60

Miami, FL – July 2024 – Radiation Shield Technologies (RST), a global leader in advanced radiation protection solutions, proudly announces the enhanced capabilities of its Demron product line in shielding against cobalt-60 (Co-60) gamma radiation. This breakthrough addresses the critical need for effective radiation protection in medical, industrial, and nuclear environments.

Demron is a unique, water- and gas-tight polymer composite composed of polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and inorganic salts of high-atomic-number elements. The material's innovative design ensures flexibility and comfort, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Effective Shielding Against Co-60 Gamma Radiation Cobalt-60 is widely used in medical radiotherapy, industrial radiography, and sterilization processes due to its potent gamma radiation emissions.

However, these gamma rays pose significant health risks, including cancer, if adequate shielding is not employed. Demron's advanced composite structure effectively attenuates gamma radiation, providing comprehensive protection for users. Recent studies and measurements have demonstrated Demron's superior shielding properties. The material has been tested and validated through Monte Carlo simulations and spectral attenuation measurements, showing excellent agreement with empirical data. These tests confirmed that Demron significantly reduces the penetration of gamma rays, thereby lowering the effective dose received by users.

Applications and Benefits:

Demron's versatility makes it ideal for various protective gear, including full-body suits, vests, training suits, blankets and shields.

Radiation Shield Technologies is committed to expanding the global reach of its Demron products, ensuring that professionals worldwide have access to the best radiation protection available. The company's ongoing research and development efforts aim to enhance the protective capabilities of Demron, addressing emerging challenges in radiation safety.

About Radiation Shield Technologies:

Radiation Shield Technologies (RST) is a leading innovator in radiation protection solutions, dedicated to advancing safety standards in various industries. With a focus on research and development, RST continuously strives to provide cutting-edge products that meet the highest safety and performance standards.

Life Protectors LLC is working with Radshield as currently the only distributor in the world to market the Demron Thyroid X-Ray protection Collar. The collar/shield is being sold to patients, dentists, radiologists and others in the medical imaging field throughout the USA and world.

The Radshield Demron thyroid collars give complete protection against radiation from x-rays during procedures such as dental X-Rays, fluoroscopy, mobile radiography, and image-guided interventional procedures.  Many dental offices, prior to performing X-Rays, to not properly apply protective aprons to their patients and some do not use thyroid shield/collar to reduce radiation to the thyroid which is located in the region where the neck meets the chest.

If a patient is undergoing any radiology procedure where the thyroid is in the line of, or very close to, the primary beam, then a thyroid collar should be provided. This can be paired with a lead apron if it doesn’t conceal the target area. Examples are:

1.     Dental Radiographic Examinations:

Where possible, dress dental patients in a full lead apron and thyroid collar for intraoral imaging. This includes bitewing and full mouth examinations but excludes panoramic imaging.

For medical staff performing radiography, C-arm fluoroscopy, CT scans, etc. all pose a risk to operator safety. The main source of occupational exposure is from scatter radiation exiting the patient. Pairing a Demron Vest or lead apron with a Demron thyroid collar is the most effective way to reduce radiation exposure if you're performing interventional procedures.

Because lead aprons contain a toxic material, they must be discarded as hazardous waste. Demron thyroid collars, vests, full body suits contain no hazardous materials.

Demron products can be folded for storage and can be laundered with no loss of radiation protection capabilities. Lead aprons should be worn properly and stored properly. They should not be folded or thrown on the floor since it may produce creases that develop into breaks in the protective barrier.

Per Radiation Shield Technologies: Demron®

Demron® is a type of personal protective equipment designed to shield the wearer from exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Made from a proprietary blend of materials, it is considered to be one of the most effective and versatile forms of radiological protection available today.

First developed in 2003 by Radiation Shield Technologies (RST), Demron was initially designed to protect military personnel from the harmful effects of nuclear fallout on the battlefield. However, its unique properties and high level of radiation protection quickly caught the attention of other industries, including medical, nuclear, and emergency services.

What sets Demron apart from other types of radiation protection is its ability to block virtually all types of ionizing radiation, which includes gamma rays, X-rays, and beta particles. Unlike traditional lead-based materials that only offer partial protection, Demron is capable of absorbing and neutralizing radiation at the molecular level.

In addition to its superior radiation protection, Demron is also highly flexible and lightweight, making it comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. It can be used in a variety of settings, including hospitals, laboratories, nuclear power plants, and emergency response situations.

One of the most high-profile uses of Demron was during the cleanup of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. Japanese authorities provided Demron suits to workers responsible for removing radioactive debris, helping to protect them from exposure to harmful radiation.

Several independent studies have also confirmed the effectiveness of Demron in protecting against radiation exposure. In one study conducted by researchers at Duke University, Demron was found to be highly effective at blocking gamma radiation at various levels of intensity.

Demron represents a significant breakthrough in the field of radiological protection, offering unparalleled levels of radiation shielding in a lightweight and flexible material. As the threat of nuclear incidents and other forms of radiation exposure continues to rise, Demron will undoubtedly remain an important tool for protecting the health and safety of workers in a range of industries.

Below is a link, along with the full article of the NIH (National Library of Medicine) National Center for Biotechnology Information, which references many studies of effects of imaging radiation exposures of patients and medical staff.  The full article is here below the link, and conclusions indicate a strong correlation of patient and medical staff to various cancers due to exposures to ionizing radiation.  In particular, the cancer dangers appear to always be present even in a single radiograph but especially from the cumulative effects of multiple / lifetime or occupational exposures.

According to the American Cancer Society in their article entitled “Do X-rays and Gamma Rays Cause Cancer?”, the below is said regarding what may be taken as a singular or very occasional exposure, but does not address what many feel is increased risk due to cumulative effects of lifetime exposures such as for example having a routine dental X-Ray every 6 months or year:

“Still, most scientists and regulatory agencies agree that even small doses of gamma and x-radiation can increase cancer risk, although most likely by a very small amount. In general, the lower the exposure dose is, the smaller the increase in risk. But there is no threshold below which this kind of radiation is thought to be totally safe.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Life Protectors LLC is an authorized distributor for some of the largest PPE manufacturers in the world but is not to be considered an expert on the products represented on our site, or of this listing.  In recent years some experts have stated that patients undergoing dental X-Rays and some other imaging procedures do not need to use any protective shields as the risks are so low.   Other experts do not agree and express concern for patients and medical staff being exposed to ionizing radiation, and particularly the cumulative effects of repeated exposures.
